Private foundation sponsored by the Brahmin Yajnavarâha, spiritual master of King Jayavarman V. The best artists of their time were probably meeting for the construction of this building made at the foot of Phnom Kulen. In contrast to many other royal monuments, this one was completed.
The high quality of the stone used in its construction, the pink sandstone, this temple allowed to resist better than plupard the ravages of time. Finally, the restoration of 1931 to 1936 by Henri Marchal who first adopted the principle widely used for anastylosis, can appreciate the care, the richness and precision that was given to ornamentation: a jewel of Khmer art.
