Koh Pous - Cambodian or ( Morakot Island )

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen inaugurated on 12 July 2011 the country's first sea-spanning bridge, reported Xinhua.

The 900-meter bridge, dubbed "Techo Morakat Bridge", connects from the city of Preah Sihanouk to Koh Pos (Snake Island), which is being developed as a high standard tourism destination by a Russia's Koh Pos Cambodia Investment Group Ltd.

The construction, undertaken by Sino-hydro Construction Corporation, cost three years and about 30 million U.S. dollars.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Samdech Hun Sen appreciated the company's efforts to build the bridge despite the global financial crisis in 2008 and 2009.

"The development of the island reflects the participation of private sector to boost social and economic development and mirrors the confidence of foreign investors in Cambodian security and political stability," said Samdech Hun Sen.

He added coastal Preah Sihanouk province is considered as the country's third economic pole after the capital Phnom Penh and the main destination of cultural and historical heritage areas of Siem Reap-Angkor Wat temples.

"In the future, Cambodia will develop the fourth pole in the country's northeast which has potentials in eco-tourism, agro- industry, and mineral resources exploitation," he said.

Mr. Alexey Chepa, CEO of the Koh Puos Investment Group Ltd said after the bridge, the company will continue to build more infrastructures and develop the Koh Puos island as a main tourism destination in Cambodia.

Koh Pos Cambodia Investment Group Ltd. was granted a 99-year lease by Cambodian government to develop Koh Pos in 2006 with the investment of about 420 million U.S. dollars.
